We've rounded up some background information and best practices for using Firecracker for Clerkships.
Firecracker has programs - available as standalone products, and part of every Firecracker MD and Firecracker DO account - for seven Clerkships: Psychiatry, Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. These programs all include study plans, flashcards, q-bank style questions, and practice Shelf exams.
We've heard good things: "I finished my psychiatry rotation this past week and took the Shelf exam on Friday. I procrastinated studying for it and decided to only use Firecracker to study the night before the exam. I skimmed through all the sections you guys have in psychiatry and I'm shocked with how well the exam went. Your psychiatry section is phenomenal. There was 125 questions and of those 125 only 4 of the questions were not covered in Firecracker. 121 of those questions were completely covered by you guys!" ~ Stephanie at A.T. Still University
And we have data suggesting Firecrackers score 7 points higher on the Family Medicine Shelf:
How to Use Firecracker for Clerkships
"Firecracker is just ridiculously convenient for everything about M3 - from those awkward times in clinic in between patients, to getting in a few minutes of studying during lunch, it's just so much more convenient to pull out your phone and do Firecracker cards than whip out a book or notepad or whatever else. I think that because of Firecracker, I got in a good 1 to 2 hours more of studying per day than my classmates who didn't use Firecracker"
What are some specific methods for effectively using Firecracker to dominate your clinical years?
- Prioritize the content, focusing first on the rotations you are currently in and on patients you are seeing.
- Pull out your phone and use the Firecracker Daily Review mobile app, even if you anticipate you will only have 60 seconds. Put the mobile app on your homescreen so it’s easy to access.
- Use Firecracker’s QBank questions during dedicated study time, in the hospital, at the library, or at home.
For students in their clinical years, studying for Clerkships and USMLE Step 2/COMLEX Level 2, Firecracker MD and Firecracker DO are available for $180/year.
