We have received many questions related to transferring your Gunner Training (GT) data to Firecracker and we apologize for any confusion caused. This post should answer your questions, but feel free to ask us anything in the comment section below. First, we will start by clarifying what we mean by "transferring your GT data to Firecracker" and discuss the specifics of the upcoming transfer in the middle of January that hundreds of you have already opted into. Second, for those of you who do not want to transfer your data now, we will discuss your option to transfer your data from GT to Firecracker right before we shut down GT. Finally, we will answer frequently asked questions in a Q & A format.
When we say "transferring your GT data to Firecracker," we mean that we will transfer your review schedule and recall score history from GT to Firecracker. Last week, we emailed all GT users giving them the option to opt-in to our transfer program. Prior to that email, we created Firecracker accounts for all GT users who did not already have one. These new Firecracker accounts automatically included all the subscription time that GT users already purchased. For those of you who opted in to the transfer program, we will transfer your review schedule and recall score history to Firecracker in the middle of January. Additionally, everyone’s notes will be transferred (no opt-in needed).
Since this is a complex and sometimes confusing process, we are extending the opt-in deadline. If you want us to transfer your GT data to your Firecracker account, please let us know before Sunday, January 6th, 2013. Click here to opt-in. If you have a GT account and want us to transfer your data but don’t see the option to opt-in, please let us know (we only show the page to GT users that we know have a Firecracker account but if you signed up for Firecracker with a different email address, we won’t know unless you tell us).
For those of you who do not want to transfer your data now, we will give you the option of transferring your data prior to shutting down GT. We don’t have an exact date yet, but we’ll notify you at least 2 weeks before we close down GT for good. If you have questions about why we're switching to Firecracker, what we will do prior to shutting down GT and why we have to shut down GT, please check out this blog post.
Below is a list of answers to frequently asked questions.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If I choose NOT to transfer my data, can I stay on GT forever?
A: For those of you who do not want to transfer your data now, we will give you the option of transferring your data prior to shutting down GT. We haven’t decided yet when GT will fully close down, but it will happen within the next few months.
Q: I don't want to leave GT because Firecracker doesn't have all the features I use. Will Firecracker be getting these features?
A: Absolutely! In the three weeks since Firecracker launched, we've already added Search and Review Schedule Customization. The good news is, these functions work better on Firecracker than they did on GT. But rest assured we will not close GT until we launch new and improved versions of every feature that you guys love on GT.
Q: I like GT. Why do I need to switch to Firecracker?
A: To understand why we're making the switch to Firecracker, what we will do prior to shutting down GT and why we have to shut down GT, please check out this blog post.
Q: If I choose to transfer my data, can I still use GT?
A: Yeah, but only until we shut down GT. If you opt into to transferring your data at this time, you can still use GT. But be warned - if you study on GT after transferring your data to Firecracker - your accounts will not be in sync. We can transfer any new data your studying generates on GT when we do our final data transfer for other users prior to shutting down GT, but not before then.
Q: I chose to transfer my GT data with my Firecracker account but it's not done yet. Why not?
A: Mid-January is when the data transfers will happen. We’re giving everyone an adequate window to opt-in to the transfer process. Because transfer requires interrupting our service for a few hours, we don’t want to do this more than once.
Q: I looked on GT and didn't see where to start my transfer.
A: If you want us to transfer your data at this time, please go here and opt-in to the transfer program. If you change your mind, the same link will let you opt-out. If you do not opt in now, you will have one last chance (date to be determined) before we close down GT.
Q: I don't want to use Firecracker because my exam is coming up in x weeks
A: You may or may not be able to use GT until then. We aren't sure of when we will be shutting GT down but we will keep you informed every step of the way and give you at least 2 weeks notice.
