‘Get Ahead’ on Your Daily Patient Cases

Find me on:

As you likely know, each day Firecracker assigns you a single Daily Patient Case from our Q-bank which we think you have a 50% chance of answering correctly based on your past progress and performance. The goal of these cases is simple: get you comfortable answering board-style questions as early into your medical education as possible. Well today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve launched a big update: you can now do as many of these cases as you’d like each day via our new Daily Patient Case ‘Get Ahead’ task!

Now after completing your Daily Patient Case, you’ll be prompted to either start your Refresh Task of the foundational topic which was tested, or attempt to answer additional board-style clinical vignettes as part of a ‘Get Ahead’ task. If you choose the latter, you’ll immediately be taken into a new study session and allowed to work through the cases one by one, each complete with correct and incorrect answer explanations.

After you’ve completed your ‘Get Ahead’ session, you’ll again be allowed to either create a larger Refresh Task covering all of the foundational topics which were tested, or start another ‘Get Ahead’ session. And don’t worry: You can create these Refresh Tasks at any point during the day, as well as create new ‘Get Ahead’ tasks by clicking the blue plus button on Today’s To-Dos.

Curious why we made this update? Well, an analysis of by the AAMC on student performance on board exams revealed the following insight: For each additional increment of 200 board-style questions answered, you can expect to raise your Step 1 score by 1 point. Answer 2000, and you’ve got a 10 point jump on your hands.

That’s all for now! Hopefully you enjoy it as much as we did building it.
